Sony’s PS5 Pro, rumored to be up to three times faster than its predecessor, is reportedly set to launch during the holiday season of 2024. Initially released in November 2020, Sony’s PlayStation 5 is now over three years old. The company recently revised its sales forecast for the fiscal year ending in March from 25 million units to 21 million units, anticipating a gradual decline in sales from the next fiscal year onwards.

According to reports from YouTuber Moore’s Law is Dead and Insider Gaming’s Tom Henderson, leaked specifications for the PS5 Pro, codenamed Trinity, suggest significant upgrades. The new console is expected to feature enhanced performance for ray-traced games, with a potential threefold increase in ray tracing performance and improved system memory running at 576 GB/s, a 28 percent boost over the PS5. The PS5 Pro is also rumored to include upgraded audio hardware capable of processing more effects.

Additionally, the PS5 Pro is said to retain the same CPU as the base PS5 but may introduce a “High CPU Frequency Mode” that boosts clocks up to 3.85GHz, representing a 10 percent performance increase. However, activating this mode could slightly slow down the GPU by about 1.5 percent. The leaked documents also mention the PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR), rumored to use machine learning for image upscaling similar to Nvidia’s DLSS or AMD’s FSR, potentially enabling upscaling to 8K resolutions and improving ray tracing performance.

Overall, the rumored PS5 Pro promises significant upgrades in performance and features compared to the standard PS5, offering an exciting prospect for gaming enthusiasts.
