Meta has released Orion, its first AR smart glasses, which brings us one step closer to our dream product. In the past, AR glasses had problems such as single function, bulky volume and expensive price, while Meta Orion, with its non-heavy appearance and integrated AR functions, made people see the hope of AR glasses landing.
As part of the 10th anniversary of Meta Connect 2024, Zuckerberg also introduced other new gadgets. The Meta Orion smart glasses made a stunning debut, leading the industry in AR experience; Meta Quest 3S headset MR Glasses released, Quest 3 “youth edition” less innovative but cheaper; Meta AI continues to upgrade, helping the headset hardware to have a better experience; Meta Ray-Ban’s new AI features: real-time translation, personalized dress suggestions, and can help you remember your parking space; Meta’s first open source large model, Llama 3.2, has been unveiled with multi-modal capabilities.
Meta Orion consists of three parts: the body of the glasses, a gesture-tracking wristband and a “computing module” about the size of a remote control, which are connected wirelessly. This “split” solution, coupled with the lighter magnesium material used in the body, allows Orion to achieve a staggering 98 grams of weight. Orion’s lenses are silicon carbide lenses, and tiny projectors on the frames emit light into waveguides, which are projected onto the lenses to reveal AR virtual content with different depths and sizes. With a field of view Angle of up to 70 degrees, the Meta Orion may have the widest field of view in the industry.
